This year, I've committed to sticking to a tight Christmas budget for a number of reasons...incuding paying for everything in cash, and not being wasteful and just buying things because they are on sale or super cheap! I'm making homemade goodies for friends and teachers and other people who are near and dear to our family. Above is the homemade peppermint bark, made in this Brittle and Bark mold (click to find mold on Amazon) for the holidays.
Are you making any homemade goodies this holiday season?
Now on to this week's yummy recipes...
This week we have a menu of comfort foods for you. In part because half of the country is under ice and snow...if not more, and in part because we're up to our ears at our house in antibiotics and all I can seem to think about is comfort food...chicken and rice soup, turkey and bean soup, slow cooker curry chicken...all meals that you'll find in this week's eats mag. The baby came down with an ear infection this past week...you may remember my lamenting post on Facebook about 2 hours of sleep...I believe that fatigue led to my immune system giving way, as I ended up with tonsillitis (strep throat, but the test was negative???) over the weekend. Fun times, fun times...but I am grateful for the time to rest and for those who helped with the kids too.
This just reminds me that in the busy-ness of the season, how important it is to slow down (even if it is forced) and remember why we call these "holy-days" holy and take the time to reflect on the reason for the season.

The $5 Dinner Mom
I have a little problem. I can not make a meal for my family that costs more than $5. My mind is filled with prices on my favorite ingredients, and frugal recipes that can be made for less than 5 bucks. It’s unnatural, really. But, my pocketbook thanks me!
