The Full Story: Untamed

We trekked to the ends of the earth (or Santa Barbara) to find the perfect spots for our Spring shoot. We were pretty stoked to discover the most beautiful locations ever: Figueroa Mountain, Red Rock, and Lizard’s Mouth.
Figueroa Mountain blew us away with its lush green mountainsides. There were also some stray cows roaming around when we arrived, though unfortunately they didn’t get to make it in the lookbook.
Located in Santa Ynez is the wonderful Red Rock camping grounds. Nothing beats a little water action and tall brushes that emit a cloud of pollen once you touch them.
Lizard's Mouth had a gorgeous view of the pacific ocean, hidden gypsy hangout caves, and a cliff that puts the Lion King’s Pride Rock to shame. Everyone was jumping around rocks and cliffs lugging very expensive/heavy camera equipment and props. It didn’t help that no one could feel their hands because of the freezing temperatures. Fortunately, everyone was safe and sound and we made sure to put the heaters on blast on the car ride home.
Q: What was it like shooting/hiking at Lizard’s mouth with all that equipment? We were definitely sore beyond belief the next day.
A: Well, It's totally easy when you have a hunky man slave carrying all your gear. KIDDING! kind of.. haha I absolutely love Lizards Mouth and have been going there for years. Running around like a monkey on the rocks is kind of second nature to me, so it was a breeze.
Q: Favorite part of the lookbook?
A: Shooting in some of my favorite locations in Santa Barbara and having the opportunity to share those special spots with so many people. It was really great.
Q: Most awesome thing that happened during the shoot?
A: Managing to find a way to get those horses up to the mountain! Some of the roads are so narrow even I am nervous driving up there. It was destiny that they pulled it off!
Favorite part of the shoot? Favorite location?
My favorite part of the shoot was seeing it all come together. You have this vision in your head from months of planning and finally getting to see it right in front of you is quite rewarding. Favorite location, hands down, was Lizards Mouth. I think the last few shots from the lookbook speak for itself.
What were you major style inspirations behind this shoot?
All I could think about during the brainstorming sessions over this lookbook were – Gypsy, gypsy, sexy, gypsy, sexy. I thought that the whole gypsy traveler vibe would be ideal for this shoot. Flowing maxis, fringe, prints, skin, and tons of gorgeous jewelry.
Any funny stories that happened on the shoot?
Where do I even begin with the funny/awkward/good time stories! Lets see, it definitely all started out with one of the horses taking the largest dump ever as we were shooting, and not to mention that the model was on the horse. Also, while hiking back and forth throughout Lizard’s Mouth, my butt (as well as a couple others) started cramping up. To the point where instead of walking over rocks, I ended up just rolling over them.

#1- I remember the first time I saw this jacket I knew it had to be used for something major– spring lookbook…done! The beading in this jacket is to die for that I would wear it everyday if I could. Instead of stopping the beadwork at the jacket, I decided to pair them with embellished shorts as well. In the end, complimenting one another as a whole.
#2 - Ashley rocked it in this outfit, especially with all that was going on within it. You have the major slit skirt paired with a classic graphic tank. Throw on an intense fringe belt and an even more intense feather headdress, which in the end pulled the whole look together. Almost has Coachella written all over it.
#3 - If I could I would definitely sleep in this outfit as well because of how comfortable it looks and feels. Such an easy outfit to throw on, but with the right statement piece (hello beautifully dramatic lace top) it can make the outfit really stand out. Want, need, love!
Q: Favorite beauty look in the lookbook? Why?
A: Some of my favorite shots are the first location close ups of the girls--the one af Mathilda wearing the headpiece, and the one of Ashley laying on her side. My favorite look was Mathilda's first look, it was easy and quick and looked great on her. She had the perfect eyes to play with colors on.
Q: Any beauty secrets you can share?
A: When it comes to making the makeup more natural, I love to use my fingers (clean of course) to blend cream cheek and lip color. It allows for the makeup to seam with the skin as opposed to just sitting on the skin.
Q: Any cant-live-without products?
A: I don't do a job without the Beauty Blender sponge. It mimics the skin's texture for a flawless foundation. I also love love love Bobbi Brown's pot rouge because it gives you healthy looking, glowing rosy cheeks, and you can also use it on your lips!
